Bike coastal route starting in Courtown and finishing in Castlebridge. You will cycle along the Coast road taking in the villages of Kilmuckridge, Blackwater, and Curracloe.
As you leave the village of Courtown, Mark will direct you to the ruins of what was once a small church. St. Patrick said mass at this little chapel before leaving for France. Also, a short distance from the chapel is a pre-Christian man made moate (a large circular mound that can be seen from a fair distance.
The coast road has a number of thatched houses and runs along some the most beautiful beaches in Europe. The opening scenes of the movie Saving Private Ryan were filmed on Curracloe Beach.
A visit to the Raven Nature Reserve and the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve which cover the slob lands adjacent to Wexford harbour are of international importance as havens for migratory birds. The dunes of the Raven Nature Reserve are rich in wild flowers, including several rarities, such as the sub species of Round-leaved Wintergreen, which is found only in Ireland on this site. Both of these Wildlife Reserves are part of the National Park Service.
